I want to wish you and your family a very happy New Year. I hope you’ve had a chance to recharge after a busy 2024 and are settling into 2025.

Here’s my latest monthly Comet article to update you on recent work and my priorities for the months ahead. You can also sign up to get my monthly online newsletter straight to your inbox: https://mailchi.mp/parliament/kbnewsletter

Christmas in the constituency

Recently, I’ve been on more local visits as part of my promise to go to every school, shop and business in the constituency in my first term.

Last month I visited MBDA to meet with apprentices, returned to our Royal Mail branch to check out their Christmas operation and spent Small Business Saturday in Lolo Cafe Bistro in the Old Town.

I also dropped in to visit the next generation of MPs at Peartree Primary School, St Margaret Clitherow, John Henry Newman, St Nicholas Primary as well as welcoming Nobel School to Parliament.

In one of the highlights of my 2024, I got to present my Christmas card competition winner Luca and runners up Daisy and Jessica with their certificate and prizes. I also ensured over 750 participants received a hand-signed letter of thanks from me.

It also wouldn’t be December as an MP without some Christmas fetes. From the Oval and Symonds Green community fetes to St Nicholas Day and to the Aston Christmas tree competition, I had a great time meeting loads of residents.

Launching my new website

I’ve launched a brand website with some really useful features for residents about my work and role as your MP. You can now book advice surgery slots online, track progress I’ve made on promises, and have one dedicated place to find out about all campaigns and helplines in the constituency. You can visit it here: https://www.kevinbonaviamp.com/

My priorities for the start of 2025

1)  Serving local residents

I’ll continue 3 advice surgeries a month, expand my staff team, set up a new local office, continue total support for residents on local and policy casework, and maintain a strong presence in our community and in Parliament.

2)  Cutting NHS waiting lists

A top concern from residents has been long delays in getting NHS services. The Labour Government has just announced an additional one million more appointments a year by extending opening hours, and creating and expanding surgical appointments. By 2029, 92% of patients will be treated within 18 weeks, down from the current 18 months.

3)  Fixing public transport

At the end of 2024, following a series of severe delays and cancellations, I released a statement that I will be meeting with railway operators in the New Year to get guarantees to improve the situation. I’ll report back soon when I have more information.

As always, you can reach me on kevin.bonavia.mp@parliament.uk if you need help from my office.
