Late-evening LNER Services Return From December

Two late evening LNER services from London King’s Cross will once again stop at Stevenage from December, a sign of meaningful progress on getting fast services between Stevenage and London restored.

LNER has confirmed that, from Monday 14 December, the weekday 22:40 and 23:33 services from King’s Cross to Leeds will both stop at Stevenage, giving passengers two additional options to travel home from London later in the evening.

The changes follow months of campaigning. Along with neighbouring MPs, I have been speaking to Ministers and pressing LNER on this since they changed their arrangements last year. I have heard from hundreds of residents about the impact on commuters, families, people with mobility issues and anyone who needs a reliable alternative when other services are disrupted.

I've highlighted the impact of LNER’s changes on commuters, families, people with mobility issues and passengers who need an alternative when other services are delayed or disrupted.

This is a positive step, and I know it will make a real difference to people who want to spend an evening in London and still have another direct option to get home.

I want to thank everyone who has shared their experiences with me and supported the campaign. Your evidence and feedback have helped make the case directly to LNER.

There is still more to do. I do not accept that Stevenage passengers should have to bear the inconvenience of reduced LNER access, and I have not yet seen clear evidence that the overall changes have delivered the benefits claimed while making things better for passengers elsewhere.

I welcome this progress, but I will keep pushing for better, more reliable and properly joined-up rail services for Stevenage and our villages.

The two services will form part of the December 2026 timetable and will operate on weekdays from Monday 14 December.
